On August 24, 2022, the FSCWMD purchased a small parcel of land owned by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation which abuts the St. Croix Prairie Waterfowl Production Area (WPA) located south of Highway 64 between New Richmond and Somerset, Wisconsin.  Partners for this acquisition project include the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Willow River Rod and Gun Club of New Richmond, generous support from members of the FSCWMD, and a significant contribution from Mick Anderson.  Mick Anderson’s contribution to this project is in honor of his parents, Curt and Elaine Anderson.  The Anderson Family owned the north half of the St. Croix Prairie WPA for many years before preserving the land as part of the National Wildlife Refuge System.  This important purchase rounds out the WPA all the way to Highway 64 and improves management of the entire St. Croix Prairie WPA.  The FSCWMD have begun efforts to donate the parcel to the St. Croix Wetland Management District as part of the existing WPA.
